Dorothy Napangardi is a Warlpiri woman from Mina Mina, near Lake McKay in the Tanami Desert, north of Yuendumu in Central Australia. She is regarded as one of the leading artists of the contemporary Aboriginal Art movement with her works featuring in exhibitions throughout Australia, the USA and Europe.
In 1991 Dorothy won the Best Painting in European Media, 8th National Aboriginal Art Award and the Northern Territory Art Award in 1998. In 1999 she was “Highly Commended” for the 16th NATSIA Art and in 2001 won the 18th Telstra NATSIA. Art Award.
In 2009 Dorothy was listed as one of the 50 Most Collectable Artists by the Australian Art Collector magazine. Sadly Dorothy passed away in 2013.
